NATIONAL DOG DAY – 26TH AUGUST

Today, being National Dog Day we are happy to share an adoption story (or two) with you.

Our thanks to Christina who along with Richard, Oliver and Luke, adopted Poppy and Marshall from Makants. Christina takes up the story ‘ We adopted Poppy in October last year. She was a real sweetheart who settled in really easily, slept all night, ate well, walked nicely, easily learned simple commands, almost no house training was needed and she thoroughly enjoyed the attention and cuddles from everyone.

Although Poppy had settled in beautifully we still knew the difference a friend could have on her so we asked to be kept in mind should a confident easy-going male dog arrive. It turned out the perfect dog was already waiting for us. And that’s how we met Marshall.

Marshall was a big lad and his heart was obviously even bigger. We brought Marshall home for a two week trial to ensure that they got on well. They were great, Marshall took it all in his stride. It took a couple of nights to figure out sleeping arrangements, as to what worked best for both of them, but once we found it they slept very well. Marshall was easily house trained within a couple of days and was already responsive to simple commands.

Over the past few months they have settled into normal life and seem to understand each other. They love to squirrel watch, eat each other’s food, chill on the sofa, have lots of sunny walks and soak up all the kisses and cuddles they get from their humans or for that matter, any person who knocks on the door!’

Christina added that she was grateful for the support she received during both adoption processes. She says ‘The team at Makants not only provide support during the adoption process, they provide support for the whole family in the days, weeks and months that follow. They are more than willing to give advice when needed and never more than a phone call away.’
