Makants hound TONY – in memoriam
We have some very sad news to share today of the passing of adopted Makants hound TONY.
Stunning fawn lad Tony arrived with us in February 2016 and swiftly became a firm favourite amongst our walking volunteers due to his friendly and calm nature. Tony soon became part of our fundraising team and would charm any visitors to our local events, acting as the perfect ambassador for the breed.
The highlight of Tony’s stay at kennels however, was the day he was taken to meet Manchester United player Ander Herrera at his home and treated as a celebrity. Tony also enjoyed days out with our volunteers and even visited a pub! He then spent some time in foster with Marie and family and their greyhound Candy before being adopted.
Tony went to his forever home in July 2016 with Gail and her boys. He soon settled into home life enjoying playing with her children and having fun on family camping holidays and beach days. Gail tells us that Tony’s favourite things were ‘running in and out of the sea chasing waves with the children, getting lots of fuss when on the school run and running races in the garden with the boys’. He also had a cheeky side where he enjoyed digging holes in the garden and sneaking upstairs to sleep on the bed.
Sadly, the family found out that Tony was suffering from cancer earlier this year and he left for the rainbow bridge on 5th September.
Many of our long term volunteers were saddened to hear of Tony’s passing as they have very fond memories of the handsome lad. We all send our sincere condolences to Gail and the boys as we remember Tony with great affection.
