ADOPTION STORIES
FINLEY (PARIS)
Back in November 2024 we tragically lost our lurcher Alfie. Our greyhound Bella was physically as well as mentally lost without him, and whilst it was a bit too soon for us, it was clear she needed another mate. From that first day when we arrived at Makants we knew we’d come to the right place, the staff were all so friendly, listened to what we were looking for and what Bella needed. We made a few visits over the coming weeks which involved walking and spending time with him and Bella in the enrichment room.
Preparations were made and we brought Paris home on 1st January 2025 and we renamed him Finley. We found the Makants enrichment room invaluable at giving hounds a taste of a home but of course there were other sounds and smells he hadn’t witnessed before. He’s responded well to training and it only took a matter of a few days to house train him, he’s a quick learner! They’re both allowed on the sofa but by invitation only and there’s been no problems with that.
We’ve found Bella is now coming out of herself in a way we didn’t expect which has been positive for us all, as well as reinforcing the ‘pack structure’ which we’re big believers of.
All in all he’s settled in really well, him and Bella are firm friends and it’s fascinating to watch the relationship develop between them. He’s quite happy in the car and has had lots of adventures so far, days out in the Lake District, going to the pub and he’s just been with us on holiday to the Pembrokeshire coast, getting his paws wet in the sea and running in the sand – certainly living his best life.
We’d encourage anyone thinking of adopting a greyhound to do plenty of research of the breed. We’ve had lots of rescue dogs but greyhounds are different in so many ways. We are so grateful to all the staff at Makants for giving us this opportunity to take home this gorgeous dog and we’re so excited and looking forward to watching him grow and develop to be even more gorgeous! (if that’s possible)
