MYTH: ‘a commonly believed but false idea’
We thought we’d bring attention to a commonly believed myth that greyhounds aren’t suitable to live with children.
Greyhounds are actually good pets to have around children since they are generally of a gentle and placid nature. As with all breeds, common sense and adult supervision is advised.
Makants do not rehome greyhounds to families with children under the age of 5. This is due to the size of greyhounds as small children can easily be knocked over by an excitable dog. We do, however, consider each application individually and are open to discussion with applicants.
Obviously children will need to give the dog space and leave the dog alone when asked. If they are able to do this they can form a wonderful bond with the dog and many families with children have welcomed an adopted Makants hound into their home.
