ADOPTION STORIES
APRIL IS ADOPT A GREYHOUND MONTH
ADOPTION STORIES – MACK AND BRIE (aka MAC and CHEESE)😁
We adopted our brindle Mack after a few years of having no dogs.
The whole process was straightforward from initial contact to signing the adoption. A lovely volunteer came to check out the house and garden and to have a chat and she left us with some recommendations for securing our fence, which was easy to remedy. We were invited along to walk the dogs and here we were paired with Mack. The volunteer walkers that came with us were very welcoming and after a few days we went back to take him out on his own. The next week we were given everything we’d need to have for a two week trial but after a day it was clear he was staying!
Mack took some time to master the stairs but can now open the living room door himself and pick his bedroom! We had one accident indoors but we soon learnt his way of letting us know when he wanted to go out. He’s fantastic and calm when going to the pub and will settle under the table at coffee shops. Our local Doggy Daycare tell us he’s paired with new dogs as he’s so calming – but he can also open the secure gates and lead a great escape!😂
Brie came to our family 18 months later. When we reached out about meeting her we were invited to collect her for a two week trial and again she was home. She was a little more aware of small dogs but after some slow introductions she now happily greets large and small dogs and attends Daycare with mixed breeds.
Together with Mack and Brie, we enjoy attending the social dog walks with other Makants hounds spending time with other greyhound owners and volunteers.
