APRIL IS ADOPT A GREYHOUND MONTH
ADOPTION STORIES – GILLY
Handsome Gilly was adopted in November 2024 by Sharon and Wayne. Sharon only joined us in October as a walking volunteer but Gilly just proved to be too irresistible!
Sharon says: ‘The process and support from Makants was second to none, we were allowed to spend time with Gilly getting to know him at the kennels, and were able to walk him, use the enrichment room (home from home room) and bring our daughter to meet him. We found everything can be done at your own pace and we did this over two weeks.
Once we made the decision to rehome him, we reserved Gilly and a homing visit was arranged and carried out by Makants. The time came to take Gilly home with us, and we had 2 weeks (or as long as you require within reason) as a trial period before making the decision to adopt them.
It was our first Greyhound and Makants gave us all the help, support and advice we needed, and they still continue to support and answer any questions we have.
We adopted Gilly after our trial period and he really is the most gentle giant, he is so loving with all the family who adore him, including the grandchildren and my daughter’s little cockerpoo who is now his best friend. He is such a joy to have and he makes us smile everyday. Each day we see more and more of his confidence coming out as he learns to trust us.
We have always rescued dogs but this breed has opened our hearts to another level. I joined Makants as a volunteer and this is something I still do as I can leave Gilly at home whilst I walk the other greyhounds. Gilly happily joins me on the fundraising events, where he melts peoples hearts with his endearing soulful eyes. Once you get to know or own a greyhound it becomes very addictive, so much so my husband has now become a volunteer as well!
Greyhounds truly are a beautiful breed and make the most wonderful pets.’
