NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2020

Each year during the first week of June we love to celebrate National Volunteers’ Week, and this year is no different in that respect. This week we will be throwing the spotlight on a few of our volunteers and sharing their volunteering story. Volunteers are more than important to us at Makants – they are essential – as the rescue simply wouldn’t exist without them. While we can’t have any volunteers at kennels at the moment we will certainly be looking for more to join our team in the future.

TOM’S STORY 2020

‘Hi, my name is Tom, I’m a volunteer dog walker for Makants Greyhound Rescue. I’ve been volunteering for several years now and until recently came along to walk the dogs most days.

Most of the dogs we get are quite easily transformed into gentle loving pets, but occasionally we get the odd dog that needs more input. As I’ve quite a lot of experience I will often work with this dog on their behaviour. I enjoy it and the challenge is quite stimulating. Everyone I’ve met at the rescue has been friendly and helpful, I’ve found all volunteers are welcomed with open arms, regardless of what they do.

Four years ago now I failed as a fosterer and adopted my own greyhound from Makants – lovable and lazy boy Mickey. During the lockdown Mickey has been my lifesaver and stopped me going insane! I can’t wait to return to walking the greyhounds again at Makants.’

THANK YOU TOM FOR ALL YOU DO!
