QUEENIE

'Pocket Rocket' QUEENIE arrived with us on the 4th January. She's a lovely, lively girl who is starting to calm and settle down into rescue life, showing what a friendly girl she is. JOSIE

Stunning grey 'snowflake' girl JOSIE arrived with us on the 20th December. It's very early days, and Josie has been lucky to go into foster care locally for the Christmas period with a male greyhound for company. FOSTER UPDATE. 4.1.21 Josie is settling into the home well and finding the world very interesting and, at times, a little scary. She is having lots of new experiences and just needs her confidence building and to get used to other breeds of dog. Josie is also making progress with her house training and does ask to go out to toilet. It appears she is a bit of a hoarder and many household items have already found their way into her bed, they’re not always intact when retrieved either! Described by her foster carer as a ‘tiny little cuddle bug’ Josie loves to play with toys and balls and just wishes her hound companion would play with her! Beautiful brindle girl RHONDA arrived with us on the 7th December. Described by Siobhan as a 'pocket rocket' this girl is full of fun! She gets on well with the other greyhounds and is getting more tolerant of other breeds with more exposure to them on her daily walks. She is such a friendly girl too. photo credit Shilpa Grewal

KING

10 year old KING has recently joined us having lived in a kennel environment all his life. KING is now in foster care locally with a female greyhound for company. Please see his profile for further details.

KING

10 year old KING has recently joined us having lived in a kennel environment all his life. He's easy to walk and, even though he is older, he still likes being taken on long walks. He seems a fairly confident lad and is now having his first experience of the big wide world being in foster care with Marzena, Jan & adopted Makants hound LOTTIE in Atherton. His foster carers tell us: 'KING has been with us for 6 weeks now and he is lovely gentle lad. He was quite bewildered at the beginning, but is very adaptable and learnt very quickly. He was very shy the first couple of days but has now come out of his shell, showing a gentle, but playful personality. He loves cuddles and to play with squeaky toys and has made really good progress with house training. He is a quick learner and, even though stairs are new to him, he can use them competently now. He also knows when his meals should be ready! KING sleeps well all night and loves to travel in the car, in fact he can't get enough of this new world that he now has the opportunity to explore and has recently enjoyed walks to Worsley Woods and Haigh Woodland Park. KING also quickly realised what sofas are for, and has made the lounge couch his favourite resting spot! KING has also been very good with LOTTIE, understanding where he fits in the household. His foster carers feel he could live with another female greyhound or equally would be happy as a sole dog too. Most things outside of kennel life are completely new for KING so he needs a home where he can take his time getting to know his surroundings and his home, with the prospective adopter having patience and allowing KING the time and space to settle into his new home. We don't feel KING could live with small dogs and is not cat friendly. Please note: due to King's age we are happy to honour all vets bills so we can assure any prospective adopter that future expenses will be taken care of.*

Friendly JAKE arrived with us on the 26th October 2020.

Friendly JAKE arrived with us on the 26th October 2020. He has recently spent some time in a home environment and is now looking for a loving forever home. EVE

Sweet girl EVE arrived with us on the 8th August. On the 20th October she went into foster care, a full report can be found on her profile.

Sweet girl EVE arrived with us on the 8th August. EVE has sustained an injury to her back leg while racing and has had surgery. On the 20th October EVE went into foster care with two sighthounds for company. Her foster carers tell us: 'EVE is so intelligent and has already learned basic commands. She loves to play with her toys and will go to the toybox to find a favourite and will drop a toy for you and go to her bed when asked - usually taking a toy with her as she goes. She is as sweet girl who is eager to please and has settled into living in a house with absolutely no problems. She loves going for walks. She isn't afraid of massive trucks going past her on main roads in fact traffic doesn't faze her. She only reacts with playful interest when a dog barks which I'm sure will improve with time. She walks like a dream on a lead being nosey as she goes. She gives kisses and chunners when cuddled and is so very happy to see you in the morning but will calm quickly when not over fussed. LOU

Stunning four year old LOU arrived with us on the 8th August and soon settled in. He is a large striking boy and we have enjoyed getting to know him.

LOU

Stunning four year old LOU arrived with us on the 8th August and soon settled in. He is a large striking boy and we have enjoyed getting to know him. We have found him to be a confident and affectionate lad who is easy to walk and he will walk past other breeds without any fuss. Unusually for a greyhound LOU does enjoy a good old sniff on his walks so his walks tend to be at a somewhat slower pace! We feel Lou would be better placed as an only dog or with a female greyhound for company. He would need an adopter with greyhound experience and who would be able to spend time in the home initially to help him settle. LOU would prefer a home without children.

HARRY

Harry is looking for his forever home. Sweet boy Harry arrived with us in November 2019. During lockdown he spent time with foster carer Celine, for more details please see his full profile.

HARRY

Harry is now looking for his forever home. Sweet boy HARRY joined us in November 2019 and was able to spend several weeks in a local foster home with Makants volunteer Celine. Initially Harry experienced separation anxiety and careful work by Celine ensured this lessened as each day progressed and Harry became more relaxed when on his own. He has progressed to feeling relaxed and confident spending the majority of the day on his own downstairs in her property and also spending night times on his own. However, it is difficult to give a true indication of his anxiety as Celine was based at home for the majority of lockdown. Celine worked on Harry’s walking etiquette while he lived with her. Progress has been made and he has successfully met larger breeds of dog on regular occasions. He can still be reactive when he sees other dogs though, particularly smaller breeds. Harry is a loving lad and has a soft spot for the children he has met. He is sensitive and gentle and his favourite past time in the summer was sunbathing on Celine’s lawn. He is not a morning hound though and prefers to start each day with a lie in! Harry is now in our kennels, looking for his forever home. We are looking for someone who would be around for the majority of the day and who could help Harry with any separation issues. A prospective adopter would need to work with Harry on his behaviour too. PATRICK

It’s hard to believe but our lovely long stay hound Patrick has been with us for five years now, having arrived with us in the summer of 2015. He was an extremely nervous boy initially, especially around people. It was a major task even to coax him out of his kennel and Siobhan spent a great deal of time working with him to gain his trust.

It’s hard to believe but our lovely long stay hound Patrick has been with us for nearly five years now, having arrived with us in the summer of 2015. He was an extremely nervous boy initially, especially around people. It was a major task even to coax him out of his kennel and Siobhan spent a great deal of time working with him to gain his trust. These days Pat loves cuddles from the people he has grown to know and trust. He allows regular volunteers into his kennel who love to give him fuss and, most importantly, treats! In fact, this shy lad has a big group of volunteers who take care of him, in effect we could say he has his own fan club! He gets on well with all the other kennel dogs, often enjoying their company walking alongside them and he is especially interested to meet all new female hounds! Although Pat's confidence has improved he can still be very wary of new people and certain everyday situations can make him very anxious. He would need a very special someone, a patient adopter who would take things slowly, and at his pace. Any prospective adopters would need to be prepared to make as many visits to kennels as is required, in order to build up a strong relationship with him prior to any re-homing. Pat classes kennels as his home and, as yet, we have not been able to find anyone who can meet his needs. In the meantime please be assured that he receives plenty of love and attention from our volunteers, many of who have grown very fond of him over the years.
